On a hot summer day with temperatures soaring into the 100s, WAMX 4246 trails 3rd on SKOL 302 returning to Winfield after interchanging with KO. This move was a part of 4246s last run in SP paint, as the SKOL would take it to Chanute, Kansas to be repainted from its iconic beat-up look to standard Watco black and yellow. Despite its ugly duckling appearance, the locomotive was a local railfan favorite, as it was a nice break from the monotonous black and yellow that filled the roster of the KO. While it may no longer wear this beloved look, it will continue to soldier on for years to come under the colors of its current owner, Watco.
