After a world tour on Norfolk Southern and BNSF, UP 6706 returned to home rails, first on the MWCTU to Tucson on July 10th, and then the MTUPX/MPXTU manifest pair on the 11th and 12th. After its all-night trek from Phoenix, the power of the MPXTU was cut off from the train and turned on the reverse loop at the west end of the yard, then backed to the engine terminal. This view (from public property) is during the turn on the reverse loop, showing 6706 bracketed by UP GEVOs with the Santa Catalina Mountains in the background. Rumors abound that the unit will be rebuilt and repainted within the year, so its nice to see it for possibly the last time, backlit conditions nonwithstanding.
