On a warm and windy Friday evening, the Kansas & Oklahoma Railroads Wichita State University tribute unit sits tied up in the spur to a lumber yard at the west end of the railroads Orient Yard. Power being parked here is not uncommon, though there is no clear reason as to why exactly the railroad utilizes this industry for power storage. Despite its paint job, WAMX 4001 is not a frequent visitor to Wichita, as the KO has chosen to keep its GP40-2Ws running from Hutchinson west, though exceptions are frequent. Once every few months, though, each unit has to make its way to Wichita for repairs or inspection, and 4001 is no exception to this rule.
