UP 7400 had started the trip as the rear DPU on GSTEHD, a 102-car empty grain train originating in Tenaha, Texas. After a reported mechanical issue, the locomotive was repositioned to the front and, running long hood forward, pulled the consist the final four miles to its destination outside Harvard, Illinois. The train was expected to be loaded at The DeLong Co., Inc. in Chemung the following day.
